COMMUNITY SERVICE
Phoenix Rescue Mission
Phoenix, AZ ▪ March 2007
Food Service Volunteer
The Phoenix Rescue Mission serves the homeless in many ways. One of the ways that the Phoenix
Rescue Mission serves the community is by providing meals to needy individuals and families who generally cannot afford a
meal on occasion. I volunteered to coordinate and lead a team of classmates to volunteer serving dinner one evening. Our team
helped prepare the food, set up the service line, serve dinner, and clean up the food area as well as the dining area. The
Phoenix Rescue Mission has regular volunteers but they happily welcome additional volunteers to relieve regular workers. They
were extremely happy and grateful that we came to assist and contact me regularly for more opportunities to serve in the same
or similar ways. It was quite a humbling experience and our group seemed sincerely willing and proud to have provided a service
to the community.
ORGANIZATIONAL MEMBERSHIP
PHOENIIX AREA IHS EMPLOYEES ASSOCIATION
Phoenix, AZ ▪ Jan. 2000 – Dec. 2004
Officer and Department Representative
The Phoenix Area Indian Health Service once had an organization that developed activities
to improve employee morale. Since relocating its offices to the downtown area, the organization was non-existent. A co-worker
and I were responsible for re-activating the organization, updating the by-laws and motivating employees to serve on the board.
I served as Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and as an office representative for several years. The Phoenix Area Employees
Association has since maintained regular existence and developed into an active organization. Officers have been re-elected
over the years and many people have taken leadership roles. New employees have felt more welcomed and part of the Phoenix
Area Indian Health Service. The executive leadership of the Phoenix Area IHS faithfully support and participate in the organization
coming to depend upon it for various activities and even recognizing it for various awards.
