DIVERSITY EXPERIENCE

From March to August of 2005 I had the privilege of participating in an extensive three-week onsite training that included teamwork with an assigned group over a six-month period. This New Leadership training consisted of participants from various governmental agencies from the entire United States, from different levels of expertise, and from a wide range of personal demographical backgrounds. Because of the diversity of our team we were able to utilize one another’s strengths and weaknesses to work together through conflict and teamwork to complete a group project. Among the diverse group included different races, levels of positions in various federal agencies, a wide range of age difference, and men and women. Our experience working together as a group provided us with an opportunity to get to know one another personally, create networks, identify strengths and weaknesses in one another, encouragement to take on specific roles, and the building of personal and professional relationships. It taught us how important it is to be able to work in diverse environments.
