Introduction to Organizational Studies (BIS 300/394)

The traditional Interdisciplinary Studies program focuses on two major areas of concentration. I have selected the alternative program with one concentration in Organizational Studies. In this course, I was able to investigate and understand the application of Organizational Studies. This course focused on identifying career development & goals, mental models, perspectives, frames, and lenses; establishing psychological contracts; understanding leadership and diversity; implementing the integration of disciplines and perspectives; and distinguishing and relating to the various types of organizations that exist.

Foundation of Interdisciplinary Studies (BIS 301)

The Foundation of Interdisciplinary Studies created an opportunity for me to explore and investigate the Interdisciplinary program. I was able to identify which disciplines most interested me as well as how they are integrated into organizational issues and how they align with my personal mission and vision. I was able to review and project my educational direction to create a timeline of completion. Additionally, I was able to establish working relationships with a team to organize a mock business and present our business plan and strategic goals.

Interdisciplinary Inquiry (BIS 302)

The Interdisciplinary Inquiry facilitated various research methods and established a foundation to gain experience in researching a particular topic relating to Organizational issues through all applicable disciplinary lenses, investigating organizational problems, determining which method best collects and analyzes the data, considering the factors that negatively and positively affect the issue, and statistically conveying results.

Applied Interdisciplinary Studies (BIS 401)

The Applied Interdisciplinary Studies course provided a unique opportunity for me to gain additional experience outside my normal scope of work with my current organization coordinating a much needed project that researched and analyzed unsatisfactory financial tracking processes for a particular program that required re-evaluation, essential changes, and improved efficiency. As a result of this important venture, the Indian Health Service, Clinical Support Center, Office of Continuing Education has valued my analysis, implemented a few of my recommendations, and will enhance their processes to make it a more resourceful and accurate system.

Senior Seminar (BIS 402)

The Senior Seminar involved in-depth self-reflection to identify meaningful and personal insights about my career goals, my purpose and how it is connected to my career goals, what my passions are, building a foundation through preparation, perseverance through perceived failures and challenges, creating and maintaining a close network of peers, tapping into my creativity and utilizing my resources, exploring the history of successes and failures of others, and ultimately developing and evaluating a success plan for my own career objectives utilizing my interdisciplinary knowledge and skills.
